Sometimes the simplest things to do are the most effective. This is one of the simplest, and it has one of the biggest bangs for the buck.

Caulking and weather stripping pay for themselves within a year from energy savings. Not to mention that it'll keep your house far cozier without lots of little drafts.

I used to think this kind of project was really for older homes. My house on Orcas Island is pretty new, and I've been thinking that I didn't need to do this kind of simple stuff. But I saw recently that I have tiny gaps between the tops of my windows and the wall! They're very little -- but they're there!

So I'm starting this project to 1) get myself to finally go around and make sure the house is fully caulked around the windows, and 2) encourage other people to do the same!! You might be surprised at what you find.
